2. What is GSM ? • GSM stands for “Global System for Mobile Communication”. Previously it was known as “Group Special Mobile”. GSM is combination of two multiple access technologies, TDMA ( Time Division Multiple Access) and FDMA (Frequency Division Multiple Access). http://telecomnotes.com/
3. What is Cell and what is Cellular System ? • A Cell is basic “construction block” of a cellular system. One cell denotes geographical area covered by one trans-receiver. The actual size of cell depends upon several factors like the environment, Number of users and height of Antenna, Power of BTS etc. • In short we can say that cell is smallest radiating unit in mobile network. • A series of cells is used to cover a large geographic area. A cellular system is a mobile network distributed over land areas called cells, each served by at least one fixed-location transceiver, known as a cell site or base station. • Each cell uses a different set of frequencies from neighboring cells to avoid interference http://telecomnotes.com/
4. What is HSDPA ? • HSDPA : High-Speed Downlink Packet Access • HSDPA stands for high-speed downlink packet access. It provides faster download speeds. It is an upgrade form of UMTS. • HSDPA provides downlink data rate upto 7.2 Mbps. • HSDPA is High-Speed Downlink Packet Access and HSUPA is High-Speed Uplink Packet Access. Both together are called HSPA. http://telecomnotes.com/
To be continue…. • Special Features of HSDPA • Adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) • Multi-code operation • Hybrid Automatic Repeat Request (HARQ) • Higher DL peak rates (up to 7.2 Mbps) • De-centralized architecture where scheduling functions are moved from the Radio Network Controller (RNC) to Node-B thus reducing latency and enabling fast scheduling. • In HSDPA Peak data download rate is increased significantly higher than 2Mbps. HSDPA is a new protocol for mobile telephone data transmission. It is known as a 3.5G (G stands for generation) technology which is up gradation • of 3G 3gpp release which is suitable for video calling and mobile TV. http://telecomnotes.com/
