What is Metamorphic Rock? Metamorphic rocks are rocks that combined and form another rock from heat and pressure. It is called metamorphosis.
Characteristics • Rarely has fossils because it is found really deep in the ground were fossils aren't. • Has layers of crystals • Has bent or curved foliation • Can react with acid if it has calcite in it
How are they formed? Metamorphic rocks are formed by other rocks that come together and change and form a new rock called a metamorphic rock for example limestone will turn into marble.
Where you find them • You can find metamorphic rock in the earths crust. • You can also find metamorphic rock on buildings ,roads , floors , and even table tops. • Even famous castles and ancient buildings are made out of metamorphic rock.
Use For Metamorphic Rocks • Marble: Used for buildings and statues. • Quartzite: is used for glass • Slate: is used for roofing and is water proof. • Most metamorphic rock gets into big chunks that are used for roads. Fun Fact Ground marble is used in tooth paste.
