School Energy Profile Overview Importance Application to Seven Steps Resources • KEEPS Utility Bill Analysis • ENERGY STAR® Target Finder KEEPS School Energy Profile Tool Application to KEEPS Assessment Report
Why Generate a School Energy Profile? Provides knowledge and understanding of a school’s baseline energy usage Estimates distribution and usage of major school energy consumers Assists with benchmarking and goal establishment
Energy Profile Calculations –KEEPS Utility Bill Analysis Performs energy profile calculations automatically as utility bill data is entered Captures monthly and annual profile data on the Utilities Summary tab - See KEEPS Energy Management Toolkit 2B.
ENERGY STAR Target Finder Calculates the Energy Use Intensity (EUI) Compares score to the average for similar K-12 schools
KEEPS School Energy Profile Tool Microsoft Excel-based file • Available online (KEEPS Toolkit Library) Generates school-specific energy profile data Generates energy distribution profile of typical major energy usage categories Profiles schools that use electric and gas • Gas as primary space heating
KEEPS School Energy Profile Tool (cont.) Baseload estimated by averaging: • Three lowest months of gas usage • Three lowest months of electrical usage Adjusted using data from “zero degree day” months
School Energy Profile Tool – Input Enter school, energy usage and degree day information • Available from KEEPS Utility Bill Analysis Tool Enter fuel type used for water heating and cooking • Available from KEEPS Water Heating Tool Enter cooking, computer, lighting, office equipment and refrigeration load. • Estimated from respective KEEPS energy assessment tools and on-site assessment forms • CBECS data can be used as a default if this information is not known.
School Energy Profile Tool – Output Automatically generates school baseload electric and gas usage Estimates energy consumption for heating, cooling, water heating and other major categories Automatically generates a Profile Summary Sheet that shows a summary of energy performance for the year being reviewed
KEEPS Report Input Locate the “Utility Bill and Energy Use Analysis” section in the KEEPS Assessment Report. Copy the energy use profile graphs for your school and appropriate CBECS school into the report.
