Minoans Mediterranean Trade • The Minoans dominated trade in the eastern Mediterranean from about 2000 to 1400 B.C. • The Minoans lived on the edge of Aegean Sea. • Created the best painted pottery for trade in addition to swords, figurines, and precious metals. • Impacted the art and culture of Greece.

  3. Unearthing a Brilliant Civilization • Knossos was the Minoan capital city. • One big change was that Minoan did not fortify their city. The city on Crete “Minoa” after King Minos. • The concept of the Minotaur came from King Minos. • Believed to be graceful, athletic people who loved nature and sports. • Women played a big role for religious ceremonies and showed them as more high ranking in society than other cultures.

  4. Minoan Culture’s Mysterious End • Minoan civilization ended about 1200 B.C. • It is believed that a natural disaster, such as an earthquake. • Unable to rebuild there city afterwards.

Phoenicians Spread Trade and Civilizations • After the Crete’s decline in 1100 B.C., the Phoenicians emerge. • Phoenicia was mainly the area now known as Lebanon. • They were primarily known for trading. • Remarkable shipbuilders and seafarers. • First Mediterranean people to venture beyond the Strait of Gibraltar and around Africa.
