Andreas Stihl established this company in 1926. He sets up the company in Stuttgart, Germany. STIHL is continuing to enlarge its worldwide sales organization by investing in its international marketing companies. As market leader, the company sells its products in more than 160countries around the world and STIHL has become the number 1 chainsaw brand.

Education: B.S. (Secondary Education) Interviewee Work Experience: • He taught in High school for eight years. • He owned his own business in Florida for 15 years. • He managed a retail store with 22 employees for 6 years. • Now he works at STIHL Incorporated about 3 ½ years.
Interviewee Job duties: • He sells chain saws and other equipment to dealers in Massachusetts. • He is responsible for 18 employees. • He trains and maintains solid business relationships between his dealers and his company. “He uses Microsoft Word, Excel and, Access that make his work easier and more productive.”
The management functions • Planning – the determination of overall company objectives and how they can best be achieved. • Organizing – the process of putting the plan into action.

What out of the four management functions that Bob Folmer spends most of his time? Why? • He spends a lot of his time in the process of planning and organizing,because he thinks that it can be most productive.

Qualities that make good manager • In his opinion, he thinks that to be consistent in applying the policies and procedures of Stihl, Inc. That’s being fair with both the customers and the employers.
Leadership Styles • Autocratic : the leader used authority in a straight-forward manner by simply issuing orders.
Leadership Styles • Participative : the leader encourages a free flow of communication and shares decisions with the group.
Leadership Styles • Laissez-faire : the leader acting mainly as a consultant and leave most decisions over the group.
