Introduction • PUWER was imposed to ensure the safety of all employees using work equipment and to prevent death or injury caused by this equipment. James and Ed
Objectives of PUWER • Main objective is to ensure that work equipment should not result in health and safety risks, regardless of its age, condition and origin. • In addition to this, PUWER 98 applies to the provision and use of all work equipment, including mobile and lifting equipment. • PUWER 98 means that Employers are obligated to put in measures to protect employees from dangerous situations. Furthermore, it ensures new, second hand and existing tools are suitable for use and fit for the purpose intended. James and Ed
Work equipment covered by PUWER • The scope of work equipment is extremely wide and covers almost any equipment used at work. For example: • Hand Tools: Hammers, Knives, Handsaws. • Single machines: Photocopiers, Dump trucks and Circular saws. • Lifting Equipment: Fork lifts, Hoists. • Other Equipment: Ladders, Pressure cleaners. Who PUWER applies to? • It applies to businesses who's employees use any type of equipment in the workplace ranging from a photocopier to power tools. James and Ed
