Background of Panera Bread company • In 1993, Au Bon Pain Co. purchased the Saint Louis Bread Company, a chain of 20 bakery-cafes located in the St. Louis region, Founded by Ken Rosenthal • In 1999, Au Bon Pain Co. changed their name to Panera Bread Company, and expanded to a national restaurant. • Panera Bread was recognized as one of Business Week's "100 Hot Growth Companies." Throughout February the Panera Bread Company will donate 25 cent per bread bowl sold at its area restaurants to the Children's Hunger Alliance.
