  2. Background Information • The U.S and the S.U began to have tensions after World War II, such as…. -Contrasting ideas -Yalta Conference -The Arms Race -The Space Race • Tensions caused the Cold War. -Very competitive and hostile rivalry during the 1940s-1990s

  3. Argument • Although the U.S government was opposed to the Soviet Union’s communism, they shouldn’t have been hostile towards them.

  4. Why? • Distinct differences made relationships with other nations uneasy. -Occupation of Korea • Were brought to the brink of war -Cuban Missile Crisis • Cold War had many negative effects -Soviet Union collapsed -Encouraged military dictatorships -New threat of nuclear weapons -Tensions were created between other nations
