What is Leadership? • Someone who exudes 3 pivotal qualities: • A leader must be strongly opinionated, and have a vision and a plan for the future. • A leader must be influential over a group of people, someone that people will follow. • *A leader must be willing to both teach and learn from others.

  4. Leadership Quality 1 • Since childhood, Che was very opinionated • Desire to help the poor • Marxist ideologies • Originally hated by many in the US • Pushed his dream that man was not to be ruled by money • Believed in literacy, launched a national literacy campaign in Cuba

  5. Leadership Quality 2 Second in Command behind Fidel Castro Battle of Santa Clara Bay of Pigs/Cuban Missile Crisis Fought the US against their stance on apartheid

Leadership Quality 3 • In 1948, studied at University of Buenos Aires • Received a medical degree. • Motorcycle journey throughout South America • Volunteered at leper colony in Peru • Very literate figure • Favorite literature was Walt Whitman, Karl Marx, Buddha, Aristotle, Bertrand Russell, Jack London, etc.

  7. Controversy • Hero – Fought for the people in Latin America and all the poor communities of the world • Gave hope to the people • Anti-hero – Socialist reformist, warmonger • Depends on if you are in US or Latin America • Left his mark on history
