  2. flustered • v. to make or become nervous, upset, or confused I was flustered when it was my turn to present because I realized that I left my speech cards at home.

  3. incriminate • v. to make (someone) appear guilty of a crime or wrongdoing Even though the Cookie Monster was adamant that he did not take the cookie from the cookie jar, the cookie crumbs all over his hands and face incriminated him.

  4. antagonism • n. hostility or opposition; a strong dislike or hatred There is a lot of antagonism between the Greasers and the Socs.

  5. contort • v. to twist or bend out of its normal shape When Karen pulled the Christmas lights out of the storage, they were contorted, and it took a long time to untangle them.

  6. transfixed • adj. very still; motionless We were transfixed and did our best not to move a muscle while the lion walked by us.

  11. optimistic • adj. hopeful and confident about the future Even though Mitch lost his right leg in a car accident, he was optimistic about his chances of still being in the Olympics 0ne day if he kept training hard.
