  8. I learned an important lesson in school today. It was during my first class when I first began to suspect foul-play. My calculator was as dead as a door nail even though I had purchased it just yesterday evening. I was disheartened but I hurried to find the instructions. To my amazement, they were written in another language and it was all Greek to me. It was dire that I have a calculator for the exam but this one was useless and passing the test without it was out of the question. As luck would have it, the guy next to me brought two calculators with him. Be that as it may, he kept them both for himself. A lapse in my self-control made me consider a quick assassination but I didn’t need the exposure and remained impartial to his inconsiderate selfishness. The situation looked gloomy and I wished I had stayed home in my bedroom. The closest student to ask now was Laura. I tried to be a tower of strength as I approached Laura, the prettiest girl in our class; but I became tongue-tied and instead of asking for a calculator I asked her for an incubator. Quickly, I watched as my self-respect vanished into thin air. Certainly, the guy next to me has always been a bit of a green-eyed monster when it came to me and Laura; and to give the devil his due, I always enjoyed pushing him to such a state. Nonetheless, he won this time. Not only was my calculator dead but my chances with Laura dwindled and I will probably remain lonely the rest of my life. Next time I will be more generous and less frugal and buy the more expensive calculator. foul-play. dead as a door nail purchased disheartened hurried amazement, all Greek to me useless out of the question self-control assassination gloomy bedroom lonely
