Personal and Social Capability There are four inter-related organising elements. • Self-Awareness – students recognise, understand and label their own emotions, values, strengths and capacities. • Self-Management – students effectively manage and regulate their own emotions and behaviours and persisting in completing tasks and overcoming personal obstacles. • Social Awareness – students perceive and understand other people’s emotions and viewpoints and show understanding and empathy for others. • Social Management – students form strong and healthy relationships and manage and positively influence the emotions and moods of others.
Organising Element – Self-Management Self-Management – students effectively manage and regulate their own emotions and behaviours and persisting in completing tasks and overcoming personal obstacles. This consists of: • Appropriate expression of emotions • Self-discipline • Goal-setting and tracking • Working independently and showing initiative • Confidence, resilience and adaptability.
Intercultural Capability Six Inter-related Organising Elements • Recognising – students identify, observe, analyse and describe own cultural identities and those of others. • Interacting – involves students in develop skills to relate to and move between cultures through engagement with different cultural groups (hands-on, face-to-face) • Reflecting – students use reflection to understand actions of individuals and groups in specific situations and how these are shaped by culture. • Empathy – involves feeling for others, caring and imagining – walk in another’s shoes. • Respect – students recognise every person is important and must be treated with dignity – this includes appreciating differences and others’ points of view. • Responsibility – students learn to respect human rights of others and the values of democracy, equity and justice. Students take responsibility for their own behaviours and their interactions with others.
Organising Element - Empathy Empathy – involves feeling for others, caring and imagining – walk in another’s shoes. • Imagine what their own feelings and responses might be in the situations of others • Seek to understand how others may feel • Consider the impact of own behaviours on others.
Ethical Behaviour Three inter-related organising elements • Understanding ethical concepts and issues – students identify, clarify and explore ethical concepts such as fairness, honesty and respect for others. (What is it?) • Reflecting on personal ethics in experiences and decision making – involves students in reflection on character traits, such as honesty, integrity, compassion and empathy and shared values. (How does it relate to you?) • Exploring values, rights and ethical principles – students explore values, beliefs and principles often used as the basis for making ethical judgements and acting responsibly and with integrity. (How does it affect your decisions?)
