15. ZCHS Random Drug Testing (RDT) Program Recommendation Thank you for your consideration of this policy that will equip our students with another reason to “Just Say No” when confronted with societal pressure to participate in the unhealthy use of illegal drugs and alcohol.

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT (con’t) Continued planning and discussion: ZCS Maintenance Facility • Heard input from Cobblestone area neighbors • Plan Commission process requires a neighbors meeting • Not at plan stage for such a meeting; got good feedback anyway! • Still studying options and recommendations • No longer plan to recommend Option 1 @ CR875 campus • Option 1 location was most cost effective but also most onerous to neighbors due to proximity to Cobblestone Gardens’ entrance • Three other options exist on 875, and we are vetting these now • Revisiting (though counsel) mandatory placement at CR875 • Looking into possibilities of dividing the maintenance function again with a two smaller facilities with separate functions

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT (con’t) Continued planning and discussion: ZCS Maintenance Facility • Research on HS location of present facility • Could remain as portion of Master Planning activity from 2008 • Could be about one-half of the solution, if refurbished • Prior question – Leave at HS with whole function? • Master Planning Ordinance approval would need to change for the ZCHS campus • Adding the entire maintenance footprint on this small, and enrollment growth-focused campus would be difficult for approvals on drainage, parking space, and neighbors’ likely objections (literally on the fencerow with Bloor Woods homes) • Still studying dividing functions and other options

28. 2011 ZCHS Graduate Ian Boggs earned the men's title at in the Draft-Legal USA Triathlon Collegiate National Championship.

29. FROM THE APRIL REPORT ZCHS and ZMS swept the top three place finishes in their respective divisions last weekend at the Indiana Future Problem Solvers’ State Bowl.

FOUR STAR SCHOOLS • Each year, the Indiana Department of Education recognizes schools that perform in the upper 25th percentile of schools in performance on ISTEP+ and ECA state exams, as well their rating determined by the national No Child Left Behind statute's Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). • Here is the link that explains how 4 star is calculated: • http://www.doe.in.gov/sites/default/files/accreditation/methodologyforfourstar2011-20121.pdf • 6/7 eligible Zionsville Schools were recognized.

32. I-READ • 483 ZCS third graders took the I-Read test online Results: • 12 students did not pass • 97.52% passed • #1 in the state

33. Top five in the world! • Congratulations to the ZCHS Steel Eagles Robotics Team 7701 who received the Design Award for the Arts Division at the Vex World Robotics Championship in Anaheim, California.

Bio-Olympiad The USA BioOlympiad is described as follows: “The premiere biology competition for high school students in the United States, the USA Biology Olympiad (USABO) enriches the life science education of nearly 10,000 talented students annually. It provides the motivation, curricular resources, and skills training to take them beyond their classroom experience to the level of international competitiveness.” The test covers a variety of biology subjects: Animal Anatomy and Physiology (25%), Cell Biology (20%), Genetics and Evolution (20%), Plant Anatomy and Physiology (15%), Ecology (10%), Ethology (5%), and Biosystematics (5%).

35. 39 ZCHS Participants! Bio-Olympiad (continued) Any interested student at ZCHS can participate in the Open Exam. Many of the students come from genetics, AP biology and anatomy classes. This year we had 39 students participate, and one advanced to the semi- Finals! Only the top 8% of students in the country advance to this semi-final level.

American Chemical Society • Every year the local American Chemical Society holds a scholarship exam which serves several functions.   • Allows students to compete to earn a scholarship to the university of their choice.  • It is a local screening exam for the United States National Chemistry Olympiad (USNCO).  There is also a team competition for money.

AMC Award Winners • This year we had one first-year chemistry student earn an Honorable Mention Award, Sophomore, Emily White • Two advanced chemistry students, Theresa Ortyl and Robert Shrote, were asked to sit for the official screening exam to determine which students would attend the USNCO held at the United Stated Air Force Academy. 

39. APRIL and May are ADULT LEARN-TO-SWIM MONTHS • In support of USMS's efforts, Zionsville Aquatic Masters swimmers offerfree adult swim lessons during the months of April and May • Over 95 adults are learning to swim at the Zionsville Aquatics Center
