  4. OOH Definition: that work undertaken between 18.30-08.00 and all day at weekends and on public holidays.

  5. OOH Characteristics of care: the type and style of working that concerns urgent and unscheduled patient contacts in a different quantity and context to the normal working day. Particular features of the out of hours period, include isolation, the relative lack of supporting services and the need for proper self care. These require a specific educational focus. [emergency care/end of life]

  6. OOH Organisational issues ( see website): [ www.peninsuladeanery.nhs.uk/] Registering with OOH Provider (Serco/DDOC) Booking the sessions: session = 5 hours web-based system Treatment Centre/ Mobile (selection important)

  7. OOH Training issues- three groups : GPST1+2 : GPST3 :GPST4 (GPST3 remedial) QC/QA : Supervisor training sessions : OOH provider visits : Trainee exit questionnaire : Regulator- GMC

  8. GPST1/2 Requirement: 6 sessions in 6 months GP But, only permitted 1 session (funded) with OOH Provider [Serco/DDOC] So, need to complete 5 sessions in alternative settings [ Hospice/ Ambulance/ A+E.....] which is organised by practice [OOH sessions recorded in e-portfolio log]

  9. GPST3 Requirement: 12 sessions in 12 months GP ALL 12 sessions with OOH Providers Trainee experience (red/amber/green) influences sessions booked and level of supervision required Trainee experience is determined by the Trainer [OOH sessions recorded in e-portfolio log]

  10. GPST4 (GPST3 remedial extension) Requirement: 1 session per month (generally) Discretionary element which might increase this and rarely reduce it depending Circumstances/experience of Trainee. [OOH sessions recorded in e-portfolio log]

Documentation: OOH Record Sheet All Trainees should have carbon-copies (c-c) Downloadable from website ( not c-c) Designed to capture experiences with OOH Providers, but may be used for alterative ST1/2 experience. Completed with Supervisor. Shared with Trainer. Signed off by Trainer.Scan into e-po Log entry in e-portfolio ‘OOH’

  13. E-portfolio and CCT Must have recorded and completed 12 Sessions in ST3 ( 6 in ST1/2) Assessed by ARCP Panel Forwarded to RCGP for CCT
