  2. My experience is with pursuing accreditation from AACSB in the U.S. for SUNY Oneonta.

  3. AACSB Accreditation • AACSB is the Association for the Advancement of Collegiate Schools of Business International • My role was as coordinator of the accreditation effort, preparation of the self-evaluation report, and being a key participant in the site visit.

  4. Comparing AACSB and ECBE AACSB ECBE Accredits programs at business schools. Emphasizes teaching and faculty qualifications. Focuses on student outcomes in each program. • Accredits business schools and the entire institution. • Emphasizes faculty publications. • Focuses on assessments of teaching outcomes.

Benefits of Accreditation • Greater recognition of the school • Affirmation of the quality of its degrees • Entry into a community of similarly accredited institutions and facilitates cooperative programs • Easier to verify transfer credits • Commitments by the institution to support its business school • Positive effects on attracting faculty and students

Benefits of the Process • Guidance provided by the standards helped us to critically assess ourselves • Resulted in a clearer relationship between our mission and our practices • Gave us a structure for evaluating our degree programs • In the process, we discovered a number of improvements and cross-course connections resulting in better degree programs

Benefits of the Process (cont’d) • Forced us to assess and consider the results of our educational programs • Strengthened areas of weakness • Established internal organizational linkages to help us improve our students’ performance • Assistance from AACSB experts • Helped us to get “second opinions” and specific guidance for our efforts • Had an influence on the college administrators

Costs of the Process A strong and extended commitment of business school administrators and faculty and a lot of cooperation to reach the goal of obtaining accreditation Support of the college administration in terms of provision of the necessary resources to obtain it A lot of work, soul-searching by people who have to make changes, many discussions, and many changes, revisions, and more revisions

  9. We learned a lot, We became significantly better, AND We were accredited!!! And in the end
