Mark 13THE VERY END: “But in those days, following that distress,
WHAT? the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light;25 the stars will fall from the sky and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’
WHEN? this generation32 But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.
Predestination or Election 1. God wants all people to be saved. 2. God choses who will be saved. 3. Those he choses (elect) are saved by Christ’s perfect obedience, death, and resurrection.
4. God does not chose who will be condemned. This is difficult to understand, and goes against our human reason but is biblical.
Different churches Lutheran and Roman Catholic Many other protestant Predestination to Heaven God’s doing 100% Predestination to hell also God’s doing 100% Predestination to Heaven God’s doing 100% Those who do not go to heaven: Their own fault
I DESPISED ALGEBRA Thought is was useless to my life… “We don’t like these complicated doctrines!”
“YOU NEED ALGEBRA” “You need sound and deep doctrine”
I QUESTIONED ALGEBRA Thought I knew more than those nerdy math guys…. Do we question God????
ALGEBRA MAKES A DIFFERENCE IN MY LIFE Even though I don’t get it all… Election makes a difference for us!
ELECTION CHANGES US Colossians 3:12-13, "Put on then, as God's chosen ones [God's elect], holy and beloved, compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive."
ELECTION COMFORTS US Romans 8:33 "Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies." 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
ALGEBRA = MR. BLOCK Predestination = Jesus “Predestined in Christ”
Five Points of Election • It is good for us to know what we can, and accept what we can’t • Election keeps us thinking beyond ourselves • Election keeps God judging us rather than us judging God. • Believing Election CHANGES and COMFORTS • Election is only in Jesus Christ!
