Port Traffic Summary Civilian – Passenger Traffic Commercial – Cargo Traffic • 2013: 65.5 million passengers • 2014: 5% increase from last year to date • 19% of all travelers crossing through the United States ports cross here • Issues with SENTRI at San Ysidro crossing due to construction and lack of open lanes • 2013: 1.1 million trucks, $39.4B • 2014: 3% increase from last year to date in volume, 7% increase from last year to date in value • Seeing a 7% increase in entry releases from last year to date • Cargo inspections remain equal to last year • Growth seen in: • Calexico • Tecate • Port of San Diego

  4. New CBP Officers & Asst. Port Director • 2,000 New Officers • Otay Cargo will get 55 new officers. New positions, not all backfill. • New officers will be coming in within the next 2 fiscal years. • New Assistant Port Director: Celia Lozano

  5. Narcotics • Last year over 100 tons of narcotics seized in Southern California ports. • Increase in seizures of hard narcotics in tractors and trailers, not in actual merchandise. • Increase in seizures of narcotics crossed via the SENTRI lane. • Decrease in marijuana seizures overall, but issues remain with bulk crossings. • Hesitance to increase TRUST in Trusted Trader program.
