Hernando Cortes (1519)- landed in Mexico • He and the Conquistadors who followed were lured by the promise of treasure • Spanish were the 1st Europeans to settle in Americas Spanish Conquest in Mexico
Cortes and his men, Conquistadors, reached the Aztec • Montezuma, Aztec, emperor, thought Cortes was a god. • Montezuma gave half the empire’s wealth… Cortes wanted it all Cortes Conquers the Aztecs
