Required vs. Elective/Recommended • A required class is a class that a student has to take in order to meet the criteria for a particular diploma. • An elective class is a class that a student may choose to take in addition to required classes to help fulfill diploma requirements. • A recommended class is an elective class that either a teacher, counselor or university suggests a student take to be better prepared for admittance into a particular university program.

What Should I Know for 9th Grade? 1) Diploma Types: General, Core 40 and Academic Honors 2) GPA Matters! 3) Course Decisions: - Choir or Band - Algebra I or Geometry
How Can Parents Help? 1) Hold your student responsible for his or her schoolwork by checking Renweb. 2) Encourage healthy study habits. 3) Encourage participation in extra-curriculars. 4) Stay in touch with your student’s teachers and the guidance department. 5) Attend parent-teacher conferences.
