  1. SB 2.22. Rear Window. Screening Day 1 Objectives: • I will view the film Rear Window so I can analyze cinematic elements for effect and synthesize multiple images to create meaning. You will need the following for today’s lesson: • SpringBoard Book • Rear Window Screening Day 1 Handout

  2. SB 2.22. Rear Window. Screening Day 1 • SSR – Read a book of your choosing for fifteen minutes. • Respond to the following question in your composition book. • How are men and women presented in your book? • How are the relationships between men and women presented in your book?

Rear Window: Screening Day 1 • Referring to the t-chart in your composition book from the first day of viewing, complete the chart and the questions on your Screening Day 1 handout. • For the chart: • Film Techniques: What film techniques underscore/portray the dominant patriarchal culture? Refer to p. 133-134. • Cinematic Techniques: How do cinematic techniques such as dialogue, vocal delivery, props, sets, costumes, and makeup, help you answer the following questions: • How are women presented? • How are men presented? • How is their relationship presented? You will have 8 – 10 minutes to transfer the information from the t-chart to the handout!

  4. SB 2.22. Rear Window. Screening Day 1 • Rewatch the following scenes on Montage from Rear Window. • Jeff and Stella talk 08:25 – 14:10 • Jeff and Lisa argue 26:00 – 30:59 • Turn to a neighbor, discuss and complete questions 1 – 5. You will have 8 – 10 minutes to complete the questions!

Screening Day 1 Class Discussion Quickwrite • Based on what we have seen in Rear Window, is this a patriarchal society? • How can you tell it is a patriarchal society? • Complete the quickwritefor screening day 1. Your response should be 8 – 10 sentences. • Turn in when you have completed the quickwrite.

  7. SB 2.23. Rear Window: Screening Day 2 As you watch the second segment (36:33 – 1:18:37)of Rear Window, complete the chart and the questions on your Screening Day 2 handout. We will be stopping every ten minutes to provide time to turn to a neighbor and discuss film techniques being used. • For the chart: • Film Techniques: What film techniques underscore/portray the dominant patriarchal culture?
