  2. Challenging Stereotypes • Christmas concert ~ ‘Do they know it’s Christmas.’ • Pupil and staff obviously had preconceptions of the countries that we were portraying. • Training for staff on stereotypes. • Every class was given the opportunity to record their preconceptions of a chosen country. They then carried research and recorded their work in a format of their choice. • These included PowerPoints, concept maps and place mats.

  3. Schemes of Work • All subject co-ordinators have completed an audit of their schemes of work to identify links with E.S.D.G.C. • All staff are aware of the importance of E.S.D.G.C. and ensure it is incorporated into termly and weekly planning. • Geography SOW is currently being amended to incorporate Spain in Year 3 /4 and where we were studying National Parks in Wales in Year 5 /6 we are now going to compare National Parks in Wales with those in Kenya. • A speaker has been invited into school to talk about living in Kenya. • Children have been working on Google Docs at home creating power points on Kenya • https://docs.google.com/a/ynysowen-pri.merthyr.sch.uk/#home

  4. Chinese New Year

  5. Upcycling Fashion Show • Children had the opportunity to work with a local entrepreneur to design and create various costumes based on five themes. • The highlight of the week was a fashion show in front of the parents and other pupils. • After studying Brazil the pupils wanted a Brazilian theme so we linked it with Mardi Gras. • http://photopeach.com/album/78io0n

  6. OXFAM • We have already forged good links with Oxfam due to our Bookfest where we collected books for them and raised enough money to equip ten classrooms in Vietnam. http://www.oxfam.org.uk/applications/blogs/cymru/2011/07/ynysowen_community_primary_sch.html • Oxfam were invited into school during our fashion week to talk about recycling, climate change and sustainability. Design ideas were given to help the children during fashion week. • Oxfam were also invited into school for an assembly on Bangladesh. Melissa is currently in Bangladesh and is forging links with a school for us to work with.

  7. Other Projects • Two members of staff have attended a fair trade course which will help us in our aim to achieve Fair trade status.
