Why Study Robotics? • Robotics is an excellent way to introduce the students to integrated STEM areas (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) • Students participating in robotics learn about STEM careers and experience the same activities as professionals solving real-world problems • Everyone – girls and boys alike – should get a chance to see how much fun it is learning engineering skills this way!
VISION: To develop a clear understanding of the computational and engineering related issues underlying the perception, planning and control mechanisms for completely autonomous or semi-autonomous operation of integrated systems.
USE of Robotics in Various Fields Factory Automation with industrial robots for palletizing food products like bread and toast at a bakery in Germany A set of six-axis robots used for welding.
USE of Robotics in Various Fields Industrial robot operating in a foundry Medicine (Robotic Hands), Defense (Bomb Squads), Climbing difficult terrains, under sea exploration and more.. Material handling: Picking, packing, and palletizing Material remover: Cutting, Grinding, Polishing Welding, Inspection of equipments (with visual cameras)
The Engineering Design Process (EDP) which is a framework used in nearly all engineering problems is also used in Robotics Design.

After students have learnt the basics, then what? • There are lots of robotics competitions in which kids can participate, such as FIRST LEGO League (FLL) and Botball. Some are local, some statewide, some are regional. • The tournaments tend to include multipart, real-world problems and research and occur over specific time periods (for instance, the FLL challenge is released in mid-Sept. each year. Competitions occur from Nov. through Feb.).
