What is a font? • Complete set of type of a particular face, style, and point size. Question: How many are there? Websites to search
Serif • Characters that are vary in thickness and have a stroke that projects from the top or bottom of the main stroke of the character. • Note: studies show that serif fonts provide visual clues to direct the reader’s eye from one character to the next, making serif fonts easier to read.
Sans Serif • Characters that are uniform in thickness and do not have serifs.
Script • Characters that look like handwriting, hand lettering or calligraphy
Decorative • Characters that are ornamental
GUIDELINES • Do not use more than two fonts in a layout! • Serifs for large body copy • Sans serif to convey messages • Script fonts for festive moods • Decorative used only for a few words
