  1. ASL FAIRY TALE PROJECT

  2. You should pick a children’s book or your favorite fairy tale. You will need a written version of whatever story you decide to use.

  3. This is a project that involves an ASL presentation and a written transcription of what you are signing in ASL GLOSS. The project will be worth 150 points and count as 1 ½ test grades for the marking period.

  4. If you do not do this project you will have a difficult time passing the class for the marking period!!! .

  5. You may work alone or with a partner. • Maximum group number is 5.

  6. Your task is the following: • Select a children’s • story or fairy tale

  7. Put the story into ASL paying careful attention to the grammatical structures we have covered • topic-comment • S-V-O “why” connector • Possessives • deixis

  8. Create an ASL (through the air) version and a written ASL GLOSS version.

  9. Practice-practice-practice the signed version so you are able to sign from MEMORY, smoothly and confidently.

  10. You may present this LIVE in class or video tape yourself outside of class and bring in the video for the class to watch.

  11. If you present a DVD for me to keep, you will earn 10 points of extra credit on your project. 

  12. You may add props and/or costume contraptions to your presentation to make it more interesting.

  13. Your written version needs to be typed.

  14. Your story will have signs the class does not know.

  15. You need to design a way to teach the class the new signs or any name signs you might be using for characters in your presentation.

  16. You will have 3 days of class time to work on this project.

  17. If it seems as if students are not using the class time to work on the project, this will become an out of school assignment.
