Bodies of Water • The Thames River- The river Thames is the longest river in London. It’s 215-220 miles long. The Thames is in the heart of London. The river is used for cruises, attracting tourists, and sports such as: water skiing, kayaking, and sailing. • The English Channel- The English Channel is part of the Atlantic Ocean. It’s approximately 350 miles long. Today, it is one of the busiest shipping lanes on the planet. The English Channel separates England from France. The English Channel The Thames River
Peak District The South Downs Landforms • The Pennies- The Pennies are a low-rising mountain range in Northern England. They are considered to be the “backbone” of England. The Pennies are 268 miles long. • Peak District- The Peak District is an upland area with several plateaus through-out it. Peak District was the entire UK’s first official national park. Peak District is about 555 square miles. • South Downs- The South Downs are a range of chalk hills that extend from the Itchen Valley, past London, and up to Beachy Head. This range is made up of dry valley’s, and is recognized by its “rolling chalk” down the sides. It is a main area in Southern England.
The London Eye The London Eye is a giant Ferris Wheel that is located on the edges of the river Thames. The entire structure is 443 feet tall and 394 feet wide. It is the tallest Ferris Wheel in Europe. The London Eye is the most paid for tourist attraction in the United Kingdom. The London Eye was built in 1999. The London Eye provides the highest viewing point, enabling you to see all of London. The London Eye brings 3.5 million people to visit it annually.
Buckingham Palace Buckingham Palace is home to the Royal Family. It is also used for the official offices. Buckingham Palace was built in 1826, and is considered a historical landmark. You can take tours around the Palace. It is heavily guarded by the Beefeaters and Palace Guards. Buckingham Palace is also home to the Queen’s crowns and jewelry. Many other Prince’s and Princess’ live in Buckingham Palace along with the Queen.
