  2. Couplet • You know a couple means two… Couplet= a pair of lines of poetry that are usually rhymed. • It can be used to "build up" your poem.

  4. Example2 • The cooling western breeze,Whispers through the treesIf crystal streamsWith pleasing murmurs creep, The readers threatened (not in vain)with "sleep."

  5. Couplet2 • Couplet with a meter of iambic pentameter= Heroic couplets • Poetic epigram= Couplet form • The other couplet examples are just some easy ones, couplets can actually appear in a more complex rhyme form

  6. Chinese Couplets • Known as duilian: "antithetical couplets” • Spotted on doorways in Chinese communities worldwide • Chunlian: Couplets displayed in the Chinese New Year festival • Eight is considered a lucky number in Chinese tradition, so some Chinese couplets consists of two lines of four characters each • Its often written vertically from top to bottom to add formality
