Knowledge and Understanding Revision Questions 2
Benefit of Creativity in Performance Complete the table I created the time and space to dribble around him and I could flow smoothly into a lay-up and score a basket I disguised my shot so that my opponent thought I was going to play an overhead clear but slowed down my weight transfer and the speed of the racket head to play a drop shot
Stopping opponents creating space Complete the table I put my hands up to block the ball but did not jump up, so that I could react quickly to transfer my weight down to stop him/her from having time to move into the space My opponent faked to perform an overhead clear but transferred their weight more slowly to slow down the racket head to perform a drop shot into the space they had created at the front of my court

Methods of Training Fartlek training – Continuous varied pace running which stresses both aerobic and anaerobic energy systems. Describe a Fartlek training session I marked out a running course in a square. I started with a jog in the first section followed by a mid-paced run followed by a sprint before a recovery walk to complete the square. I then repeated the process continually around the course for 8 minutes, had a 2 minute rest period and then ran again for 8 minutes. I repeated this until I had performed the Fartlek run 5 times. This gave me a work rest ratio of 4 : 1.
Methods of Training Interval training – Training using alternate periods of exercise and rest. Depending on the level of intensity of training it can be used to develop aerobic or anaerobic fitness. Describe an Interval training session Run 100 metres sprint at full speed – rest for 2 minutes – run 100 metre sprint – rest for 2 minutes. Repeat until sprint performed 10 times.
Methods of Training Continuous training – Continuous exercise carried out without rest periods. Describe a Continuous training session I ran continuously for 30 minutes at a steady pace in my training zone at 75% of my maximum heart rate.
What effect would a poor level aerobic endurance have on your performance? Try to think of at least 3 reasons Tire as activity progresses. Unable to move with fluency and control throughout the activity. Unable to keep up with play during the activity. Skill level deteriorates towards the end of the activity. Unable to recover as quickly as you had at the start of the activity
Developing skill and fitness in the same practice Team activity – Basketball Skill/technique – Lay-up Aspect of Fitness – Cardio Respiratory Endurance Describe a practice that would develop the skill and fitness aspect I placed a marker at the head of the key and performed 20 lay-ups, continuously dribbling around the marker after each shot. I stopped for 30 seconds and repeated this 5 times.
Look at the training programme below What aspect of fitness would it develop? Strength What intensity of effort is being used in this session? 70% of maximum lift
Look at the training session below Repeat 3 times What method of training is this a description of? Circuit Training More repetitions eg 30 to 40 More sets eg 3 to 4 How would you progress this work load?
Fitness training can be carried out through participation in activities (eg playing a game of football) or it can be carried out in isolation out with activities (eg weight training in the gym) What would the reasons be for training within an activity – think of at least 3 You may find training in isolation boring. You find fitness through participation more enjoyable. Fitness within the activity motivates you more. You can work on specific skills and aspects of fitness required for your role/position within an activity. You can practice when fatigued in game like situations.
What would the reasons be for training out with an activity – think of at least 3 You can develop a specific aspect of fitness. You can work on your own when training. It requires less organisation. You can choose a type of training specific to your needs
