  2. When to Write One • When you screwed up and you really want/need the other person to forgive you, usually to keep their business. • When Mr. Hepworth tells you to write one.

  3. Business Letter • An apology letter is a formal business letter just like the complaint letter so the format is going to be the same. • Make sure you have your name, address and phone number in the upper left • Underneath that make sure you have the name and address of the person you’re writing to

  4. Body Paragraphs • Body Paragraph 1: 2-3 sentence summary of the problem • Body Paragraph 2: Explanation of why the problem happened – not excuses, but an explanation • Body Paragraph 3: What you are doing to fix the problem and what you are doing to make sure it doesn’t happen again

  5. Tips • Write the apology letter as soon as possible. • Apologize soon and apologize often • Take full responsibility for the problem • Focus on what you are going to do to fix the problem • Be sincere, considerate and respectful
