  1. APOLOGY Definition : • Apology is the one of the speaking expressions that we use when we say sorry because make a mistake to someone else.

  2. Purpose of Apology • The purpose of an apology is to put the listener at ease regarding the trustworthiness of the apologizing party. An apology isn’t complete if it doesn’t reflect all four of these : • Regret, • Understanding of the problem, • Acceptance of responsibility, • Willingness to do better.

  3. Kind of Apology • Fault apology, ex. “I’m sorry I lost your book.” • Regret apology, ex. “I’m so sorry and I regret it.” • Sympathize apology, ex. “I’m sorry to hear of your mother’s illness.”

  5. Dialogue Examples Mr. Ali : Do you have typed the letter to Ms. Ghea? Secretary : I’m sorry, Sir. I completely forgot. Mr. Ali : Never mind. Will you do it now, please? Secretary : Certainly, Sir. I do apologize for my absent mindedness. The underlined sentence expresses an apologizing. Explanation : The secretary is apologize to Mr. Ali because she forgot to type the letter to Ms. Ghea. The sentence I’m sorry, Sir. I completely forgot is one of the apology expressions.
