By Faith KIF Fall 2011 Sermon Series - Ephesians
Heb 11: 23-29 23 By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months by his parents, because they saw he was a goodly child; and they were not afraid of the king's commandment. 24 By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter; 25 choosing rather to share ill treatment with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; 26 accounting the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt: for he looked unto the recompense of reward. 27 By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible. 28 By faith he kept the Passover, and the sprinkling of the blood, that the destroyer of the firstborn should not touch them. 29 By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do were swallowed up What does it mean “To live by faith?”
Indwelling Christ so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith;
Hebrews 11 1 Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. 2 This is what the ancients were commended for. 3 By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible. 4 By faith Abel offered God a better sacrifice than Cain did. By faith he was commended as a righteous man, when God spoke well of his offerings. And by faith he still speaks, even though he is dead. 5 By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death; he could not be found, because God had taken him away. For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God. 6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
What is faith? Verse 1 Faith is being sure (certain) of what we hopefor, The conviction of what we do not see. (Awareness) Verse 6 And without faith it is impossible to please God. For whoever would draw near to God (hope) must believe (certain) that he exists (Awareness) and that he rewards those who seek him.
General Observations • It is not blind faith, not positive thinking • Faith grounds us in reality, fact • Faith has hope. Hope starts with discontentment. (Desire⇒Goals⇒kaizen) • The enemy of faith is complacency Through the years I have struggled to gain a greater understanding of electricity and magnetism in order to help harness those forces for man's use. Even so, I cannot now give a lucid definition of electricity or magnetism, except to say that they are invisible forces which have real manifestations.
What is faith? Faith is believing there is another dimension to life other than those which can be touched, tasted, seen or felt. There is also the realm of the spirit, the invisible spiritual kingdom of God. All the ultimate answers of life lie in that kingdom. AWARENESS Faith believes that God, in his grace, has stepped over the boundary into human history and told us some great and very valuable facts. CONVICTION Faith believes them and adjusts its life to those facts and walks on that basis. HOPE
