Introduction • Flexible employment benefit • Pays minimum wage, tax-free • $7.67 per hour • Provides free assistance to SCOs • Many other approved Work Study Locations also • Must be using GI Bill at least ¾ time
Application Process • Work site must apply for approval • Receive approval • Submit application for contract for each WS • Receive approved contract/agreement • Submit for payment every 50 hours • 3-4 weeks WS receive payment from VA • Close/Extend contact at its expiration
1. Work Site Application • Send an email to wks.vbaatg@va.gov • Request approval as a WS Location. • Include: • Your name • Location and contact information • Number of positions requested • Sample Job Description on Letterhead
Sample Job Description • Filing • Answering the VA telephone line • Data entry • Directing the veteran and/or service member to the appropriate office, department, or website • Assisting with registration and orientation • Scanning VA files for archiving • General clerical duties
2. Submitting WS Applications • Always Include • Application Form 22-8691 • Available at gibill.va.gov • Signed Position Description • Enrollment Certification 22-1999/b • Must show ¾ time enrollment
Receiving WS Contact • 3-4 weeks to receive the contact from the VA • Will include 3 documents: • Agreement Page • Time Record (TR) • Reminder Page
3. Submitting for Payment • VA Pays in increments of 50 hours, not to exceed 150 hours in a single submission. • Except for final Time Record submission • Fax or email • Signed Agreement • Signed Reminder Page • Completed TR • Using the E-Time Record will allow for faster processing
4. Closing and Extending Contacts • Closing • Used when contact period has reached 1 year • When WS student discontinues employment • Extending • Cannot be extended more than 1 year • Submit new 22-8691, new Position Description and new 22-1999 • Write Extension on the top of the 22-8691
