  2. Overview of MDX • As a toll road system, MDX has one of the most open roadway networks known • With more than 700,000 users daily, only 28% pay a toll • How do you make it equitable to all users?

  5. Our Voyage to ORT • A toll, like any fare, is the fairest way of charging the user for the facility (or service – utility) that they use. A toll is not a tax, a tax, everyone pays regardless of use, with a toll, only the users pay.

  10. Relationships with Stakeholders MDX will continue to gain support as a regional asset that provides the public, the transportation partners, and community leaders with solutions that promote reduced demand on, and more efficient use of government resources.

  13. MDX Strategic Plan – Vision Statement “The MDX transportation system will provide safe, affordable choices for the movement of people and goods in Miami-Dade County. The system will support and sustain economic opportunities in the South Florida region. It will be equitably tolled, well maintained, reliable, multimodal and aesthetically pleasing while also being environmentally sensitive. This system will be planned, delivered and operated in cooperation with MDX’s partners in the public and private sectors.”

Living the Vision… Outreach, roadway modifications and tolling conversion: • SR 924 corridor – Opens July ’09 • SR 878 & SR 874 – Opens July ‘10 • SR 112 & SR 836 – Opens July ’12 • Procurement of systemwide toll system integrator Advertisement and construction of ITS projects: • SR 112, SR 924, SR 874 and SR 878 corridors – to be let for construction in early FY 2008 • Traffic Management Center

Improving Mobility – Enhancing Operations • Development of system enhancement and upgrades to improve the level of service of the MDX system • Assessment of current bridge condition and prioritization of their rehabilitation and/or replacement • Pavement evaluation and rehabilitation • Fence replacement • Landscaping for SR 836 Extension projects • Steel bridge and structure painting system-wide • Concrete coating of SR 924 bridges system-wide

  19. Leveraging Partnerships • Tolls will fund $200 million for the construction of the SR 826/ SR 836 interchange improvements • MDX to assist FDOT in funding • New – MDX will Assist FDOT with $60 million for the SR 826 and SR 874 (Bird Road to Miller Palmetto project)

Improving Mobility – Thinking Outside the Road • Development of studies to address short term solutions to congestion • Definition for proposed contra-flow lanes on SR 836 to determine feasibility for implementation and operation • Enhancements to the SR 836 eastbound shoulder in the SR 836 / SR 826 interchange area to allow use of shoulder for travel during peak hours
