IT Innovation at Ames • ARC recognized as Agency innovation leader in: • High-performance networking, • Computational services, and • Information security • Leverage specialized facilities (SOC, N254 IX, containerized data center, test beds, etc.) • Silicon Valley location provides ARC with unique technology partnership opportunities • Increased emphasis on innovation for mission enablement – working with missions at proposal phase • Will leverage NASA Space Act Agreements to benefit NASA and the public Presentation Title—2—March 5, 2010

Network Innovations • Working to re-start network innovation project within Agency. • Focus will involve merging other IT technologies with emerging network technologies • The innovation approach will involve collaborations and information sharing with industry, other Federal Agencies and academia Presentation Title—3—March 5, 2010

IT Security Innovation Lab • Social media security & policy whitepaper • Centralized management & deployment of low cost, open source, high verification dedicated firewalls for project & mission use • Algorithm-based risk score calculation for combined vulnerability assessment tools • Low cost penetration testing program for agency. • Performed in-depth security analysis of 3g "Microcell" devices deemed unsupportable due to security and operational concerns.  Presentation Title—4—March 5, 2010

Computational Service Office High End Computing (HEC) • World’s 7th most powerful supercomputer • Top notch talent in the field of computational sciences • Maintain large scale visualization capabilities Cloud Computing • Nebula, NASA’s private cloud • Currently testing Science Mission Data • Computational Service Office will evaluate data and choose best option for running, HEC, NASA Cloud, private cloud. ARC Missions • LCROSS - Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite • Discovered water on the Moon • Provides technologies and modular, reconfigurable subsystems to support future mission architectures. • Kepler– Search for habitable planets • Surveyed large number of stars discovered 1235 potential habitable planets in 6 systems • SOFIA – Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy • SOFIA is the largest airborne observatory that will study the universe in the infrared spectrum. • LADEE – Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environment Explorer • Orbit the Moon to characterize the atmosphere • Test new low cost spacecraft architecture “Modular Common Bus” Presentation Title—11—March 5, 2010
