  2. What do you expect to be involved in studying poetry? What kinds of things do you think you will be doing? What sort of things will you be thinking about? What are some terms you will need to know?

  7. Activity: Close Reading a Poem Read the poem “No Ordinary Sun” by Hone Tuwhareand complete the following tasks: Identify any words which you do not know. Find and record their meanings. Describe the tone of the poem. How is this tone achieved? Identify and important figurative language technique used in this poem. Explain its effect. Identify at two more language features used by Tuwhare and explain their effects. Explain what you think Tuwhare’s purpose is in this poem. What does he want us to think/understand?
