Monday, Sept. 8 • Ch. 3 Quiz/Comparative Essay Rubric Quiz • Crash Course: • Thesis or Not? • With a partner, you will analyze more examples of C/C thesis statements • ***BRING YOUR HIGHLIGHTERS TO CLASS TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY FOR ESSAY ANALYSIS! • Homework: Your chapter 4 work is due Tuesday • You have a big test this week! • Ch. 1-5 • Focus on Ch. 1 from Bentley and Ch. 2-5 from Stearns textbook • Anything that we have watched (i.e. Crash Courses) are also fair game!

Tuesday, Sept. 9 • Ch. 4/Crash Course #5 Persia/Greece • “Historical bias” • Greek origins • Persian Wars/Battle at Thermopylae • Alexander the Great • Thesis or Not? • With a partner, you will analyze more examples of C/C thesis statements • Homework: 2007 Comparative Question Handout • Is it a thesis? Answer and explain. • Readings for Unit 1 Test should be complete! • Don’t forget your highlighters for Wednesday!

  4. Wednesday, Sept. 10 • Ch. 4 • Timeline: Classical Age • Sparta vs. Athens • C/C Analysis: Sample essays (directions on next slide) • Review Thesis or Not? • Homework: Readings for Unit 1 Test should be complete!

C/C Essay Analysis • Read your essay thoroughly all the way through. • Go back and label in the margins. • T: Thesis (Pink) • S: Similarities (Green) • D: Differences (Blue) • DC: Direct Comparison (Orange) • E: Evidence (Yellow) • After labeling, highlight according to the above code. • On the back of your essay, grade it accordingly and add notes as to why you gave it that grade.
