Is sport Third Sector? “The voluntary [and community] sector includesnot just those organisations which provide services to the people who need help, advice or care; it embraces all those, formal and informal, large or small, which people set up and join because they like to play football or sing….”, NCVO Civil Society Almanac 2008 found sport is third largest segment of civil society organisations generating £6.1 billion

  3. Characteristics of clubs • Geographic (in an community) • Same interest (community of interest) • Volunteers – coaches, drivers • Little/no money and fundraise • Membership based/led • Managed by a Committee

Sport Partnership Project Funded by Sport England (2007 – 2010) Aim: “To embed a culture of collaboration between sporting organisations and wider third sector” LIOs work with sport to clubs improve effectiveness and reach To provide most hard to reach and disadvantage to benefit from participation in sport

Volunteering England We offer sport: • Research specialism • Good practice in volunteer management • Training and organisational accreditation • Campaigning on behalf of our sports members Benefits of working with NAVCA on sport agenda We offer our Volunteer Centre members: • Contact information • Easy guides to sport • Sport policy influencing at a national level • Creating better understanding about Volunteer Centres among sport organisations
