Webelos Scouts Exciting Program ! Lisa A. Vroman – Troop 68, Windsor
Why worry about an exciting program now? • During the 4th and 5th grade years – our scouts have the opportunity to get involved with many more community programs • Make them see why scouting is just (if not more) important than sports • Hard to get a scout back after he leaves – so make him not want to leave
What is different about Webelos ? • Everything!!
Uniforms • Webelos are encourage to wear the khaki colors • Plaid neckerchief
Advancement Differences • No more beads • No more arrow points • No more “Quick Recognition” • Webelos earn: • “Activity Badges” • Compass Emblem • Arrow of Light
Webelos Dens • Begin to create a Patrol environment • Give the scouts more of a voice • Let them help to choose the schedule • Rotate leadership within the patrol • Refer to them as the “_______ Patrol” when they are recognized at Pack Meetings, etc.
Opening the meeting • Begin your Patrol meeting with: • Pledge of Allegiance • Cub Scout Promise • End your Patrol meeting with: • Scout Oath • Scout Law
Patrol Meetings • Patrol “Beads” {Reward} – • Preset what the reward will be – Build upon each full bottle • Indoor snowball fight • Make your own Sundaes • Pizza party • Small Empty Water Bottle & Beads • Each scout gets to add a bead to the bottle • Be Prepared – Uniform, Book, Assignment • Gathering Quiz – pull a card from the bag • Square Knot • Scout Oath • Scout Law • ETC.
Parents • Encourage the scout to have Patrol Leader(s) sign off requirements – not Mom or Dad • This helps get them ready for Boy Scouts
