  4. BOY SCOUT OATH On my honor, I will do my best to do my duty to God and my Country and to obey the Scout Law; To help other people at all times; To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.

  6. FLAG CEREMONY AND FOLD Which side of the stage does the US flag go on? To the right of the speaker (left side as you’re looking at the stage) How many people does it take to hoist a flag? Two. One to hold the flag and one to attach the flag to the halyards and hoist. Don’t forget to hold the line taut!

GREETER DEN • At Tuesday’s (11/13) Pack Meeting we will be the first “Greeter Den”. • Arrive at 6:20pm for special assignments • Greeters will: • Welcome folks as they arrive • Pass out Bulletins to the Parents • Pass out Gathering Activities to the scouts • Assist otherwise as needed • A “Greeter Den” is different than the den responsible for flags. • BEST behavior expected

Arrow of Light Requirements (p. 63) • Be active in your Webelos den for at least 6 months since completing the 4th grade (or for at least 6 months since becoming 10 years old), and earn the Webelos Badge. • All have earned the Webelos Badge. [June 8th to November 8th = 5 months] If you were 10 years old on May 8, 2012, you may mark this complete with today’s date (11/08/12). If your 10th birthday was later than May 8, you may mark this complete in one month (12/08/12). • Show your knowledge of the requirements to become a Boy Scout by doing all of these: • **Repeat from memory and explain in your own words the Scout Oath or Promise and the 12 points of the Scout Law. Tell how you have practiced them in your everyday life. Everyone needs to practice the Scout Oath, Promise & Law at home. • 11/08/12 Give and explain the Scout Motto, slogan, sign, salute, and handshake. • 11/08/12 Understand the significance of the First Class Scout Badge. Describe its parts and tell what each stands for. • ________Tell how a Boy Scout uniform differs from a WebelosUniform. (p. 66) • ________ Tie the “joining knot” or square knot. (p. 350)

Boy Scout Achievements SCOUT – Most requirements are met when achieving Arrow of Light; Similar to ‘Bobcat’ TENDERFOOT– First rank earned as a Boy Scout; involves demonstrating knowledge of scouting, hiking, and camping basics. 2ND CLASS – Scouts work on outdoor survival and camping skills. 1st CLASS – Scout can demonstrate he has learned all the basic camping and outdoor skills of a scout STAR rank -> LIFE rank -> EAGLE SCOUT rank

  12. FIRST CLASS RANK Three-point design– Top part is the North point of the compass sailors used long ago. The 3 point, like the Scout Sign, represent the 3 parts of the Scout Oath. Fleur De Lis - Chosen by Sir Robert Baden-Powell as it was the arm-badge of soldiers qualified as “Scouts” or reconnaissance specialists in the British Army. Shows a Scout points the right way in life. Two stars – Truth + Knowledge. Stars guide us by night & remind us of the Scout’s outdoor life. Eagle with Shield – Emblem of the United States of America. Stands for freedom and readiness. Scout Motto Scroll – Banner is turned up representing Scout’s smile as he does his duty. Knot - Reminder of the promise to do a good turn daily. Arrow of Light Requirements (p. 63) • Earn 5 more activity badges in addition to the 3 you already earned for the Webelos Badge: • 03/10/12 Fitness Activity Badge • 03/10/12 Citizen Activity Badge • ReadymanActivity Badge (everyone earned this during a Webelos-O-Ree) • Outdoorsman Activity Badge (most everyone earned this by the 11/13/12 Pack Meeting) • Mental Skills Activity Badge (many earned the Artist AB in Feb. or Mar. of 2012) • Technology Activity Badge (many earned the Engineering & Scientist Abs in Spring 2012) • One more Activity Badge (most earned Geologist AB in Fall 2011) • _________ With your Webelos den, visit at least: • one Boy Scout troop meeting (completed if you attended the 10/16/12 Troop Meeting) • AND • one Boy Scout oriented outdoor activity (completed at 10/14 hike OR 09/11 Pack Mtg)

  14. Arrow of Light Requirements (p. 63) • Participate in a Webelos overnight campout or day hike. You may NOT use the same hike or campout used to complete the Outdoorsman Activity Badge, it must be a separate activity. • Activities that MAY count, provided they have not been used for Outdoorsman, include: • Boy Scout Hike 10/14, • Claude Moore Park Trail Clean-up, Spring 2012, • Summer campouts, • Webelos-O-Reecampout on 9/27/11 or 9/21/12, or • Camp Highroad campout on 10/20/12. • After you have completed all five of the above requirements, and after a talk with your Webelos den leader, arrange to visit, with your parent or guardian, a meeting of a Boy Scout troop you think you might like to join. Have a conference with a Scoutmaster. • Complete the HONESTY Character Connection (p. 64 - to be completed at home)

  15. LEAVE NO TRACE AWARD • Discuss with your leader or parent the importance of the Leave No Trace frontcountry guidelines. Done at 09/25/12 Den Meeting. • On three separate outings, practice the front country guidelines of Leave No Trace. • Earn the Outdoorsman Activity Badge. • Participate in a Leave No Trace-related service project • Promise to practice the Leave No Trace frontcountry guidelines by signing the Cub Scout Leave No Trace Pledge. Done at 09/25/12 Den Meeting. • Draw a poster to illustrate the Leave No Trace frontcountry guidelines and display it at a Pack Meeting. 11/13/12 Pack Meeting
