Fall 2007 2 SeminarsAverage Attendance - 13 • Lincoln University • MSPGP • Pedagogy Learning Seminars • Goals: • Learn new teaching methods • Discuss the challenges in implementing these techniques. • Interact with faculties of Mathematics, Sciences and Education Department. • Involve new faculties and spread awareness of new teaching methods. • Involve Octorara School and create a strong bond between the school and college. The Math Science Partnership of Greater Philadelphia A Program of the National Science Foundation At Lincoln University Pedagogy Learning Seminars Spring 2007 There were four seminars, each on Thursdays from 4:30 to 6:30 PM. February 15, 2007 – “How People Learn” (Attendance - 9) March 8, 2007 - “Formative assessment” (Attendance =-12) April 12, 2007 – “Research Material on Learning Methods” (Attendance - 12) May 3,20 07 – “Conclusion” (Attendance - 11) Some of the challenges we discussed in our second seminar. 1. Students dislike mathematics! 2. Students exhibit a defensive posture in our math and science classes 3. Fast pace teaching is a challenge for students. They want a better understanding of a few things instead of trying to learn everything in the book! 4. At Lincoln University, prerequisites are often not met before students are allowed to register for classes. And so on… Fall 2007 Four seminars each on Wednesday from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. September 26, 2007 – “How People Learn” (Attendance - 10) October 17, 2007 – “Teaching and Learning Challenges” (Attendance - 16). November 7, 2007 - “Formative assessment” November 28, 2007 – “New Approaches in Math and Science Learning”
