  8. Congress of Europe • Set up to control power in Europe • Preserves Status Quo Austria/France/Russia/Germany/UK run the show. • Many glitches in this idea – Unification of Germany and Italy. UK becomes superpower. Austria Weakens. Together these strain the congress to the breaking point.

  19. The Spark • Franz Ferdinand (A-H Leader) visited Bosnia • Franz assassinated by Serbian Terrorist group, the black hand in July 1914. • Serbia refuses to give in to all of Austria’s demands.

  24. What does America Do? • DURING THIS PERIOD AMERICA EXPANDS RAPIDLY BECOMING THE DOMINANT ECONOMY IN THE WORLD. WINNING AN EMPIRE OF THEIR OWN:CUBA, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, Guam, Midway, The Philippines, Panama Canal Zone. Massive immigration from Europe.
