  3. The WIRED Initiative • Launched in November 2005 by the DOL-ETA • GOAL: • Create effective regional economic development strategies • CRITICAL Component: • Talent Development • Build a globally-competitive workforce

  4. Brings together diverse groups: • State, local and federal entities • Academic institutions (including K-12, community colleges and universities • Investment groups • Foundations • Business and industry

  5. Currently, there are39 WIRED Regions

  6. 2 Regions are in Indiana

  7. WIRED 1st Generation • In February 2006, DOL - ETA announced 13 regions that comprise the WIRED 1st Generation. 1st Generation WIRED Regions were awarded $15 million over three years to revitalize their local economy.

  8. WIRED 2nd Generation • In January 2007, these regions became the 2nd Generation Regions. • Each region received $5 million investment over a three year period.

  9. WIRED 3rd Generation • Thirteen additional applications were selected in June 2007 and will receive a $5 million investment over a three year period. • There are no 3rd Generation WIRED regions in Indiana.
