  1. The Facts • This year there are over 14 million children under age 15 Orphaned in Africa by the HIV virus. • 22 million people have already died, 1 in 4 of them were children.

  2. Across Africa… • Grandparents are caring for 10 or more children. • Churches are overwhelmed with children without families. • Young children are forced into labor, soldiers, and prostitution to support themselves and siblings. • Isolated from family, friends and support, many repeat the same cycle that took their parents.

  3. But there are signs of hope!

  4. In South Africa, Teachers, Churches and volunteers are coming together to see that AIDS orphans are fed a healthy meal.

  5. In Somerset West, an orphanage was started by a Grandmother who takes care of orphans as well as her own grandchildren. Some of these children have AIDS.

  6. Dr. Mike Hattabaugh — Executive Director — NDOC Would you join us today?

  7. The purpose of the National Day of Care is to promote an annual day which mobilizes churches to respond to victims of humanitarian crises. The initial focus is to provide assistance to the over 15 million orphans and victims of AIDS in Africa.

  8. Why AIDS? • AIDS is considered to be the greatest humanitarian crisis in history.

  9. Why Africa? • 80% of all AIDS victims live in Africa. AIDS is destroying Africa.

  10. Why Orphans in Africa? • The future of Africa is at stake. The rising death rate of the adult population is creating a “continent of children.” This tragedy is unprecedented.

  11. Why the Church? • The Church is the only structure in the world which has the ability and mandate to deal with the scope of AIDS and orphans.

  12. “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress…” – James 1:27a

  13. The Opportunity If God’s people will help the children of Africa and share the Gospel with them, this continent could be reached for Christ. This is an historic opportunity for the Church!

  14. This is an historic opportunity for the Church!
