In the ILIAS proposal… • WP3: An European Strategy for Future Antennas • Plan the enhancement of the performances of the European gravitational wave detectors and to organise their collective operation. • Objectives: • To determine scientific objectives that could be attained through short term improvements, optimisation and association of detectors now available in Europe. • To establish the bases for integratingexisting and future gravitational wave detectors in a coherent network. • To draft a plan for a European network of gravitational wave detectors at the 2010 horizon 1 2 3 WG3 - 4th ILIAS GW meeting

First Objective (in the last year) 1 • To determine scientific objectives that could be attained through short term improvements, optimisation and association of detectors now available in Europe. • Virgo+ (M.Punturo talk) • Support to the reviewing activity (1st and 2nd review meetings) • Laser Amplifier • Monolithic suspensions • Fast quadrant centering system • Modulation frequency issues WG3 - 4th ILIAS GW meeting

  4. … first objective (in the last year) 1 • Advanced Virgo • Support to the preparation of the design study (G.Losurdo) • Support to the co-chairman of the optical configuration working group (A.Freise) • GEO HF • Preparatory discussions at the WG3 meetings WG3 - 4th ILIAS GW meeting

  5. 2 Second Objective • To establish the bases for integrating existing and future gravitational wave detectors in a coherent network. • Initial seed of the discussion • Overwhelmed by the bilateral agreement between Virgo and the LSC (that includes the 3 LIGO detectors, GEO and Virgo) WG3 - 4th ILIAS GW meeting

  6. 3 Third Objective • To draft a plan for a European network of gravitational wave detectors at the 2010 horizon • Fully achieved through the support to the enhanced and advanced detectors design • Positively overwhelmed by the startup of the discussion and the support to the preliminary design activity of an European 3rd generation GW detector • Support to the FP7-ET design study proposal • Full session dedicated to ET WG3 - 4th ILIAS GW meeting
