They will receive them in Homeroom, and bring them home in their folders.

Homework Policy • 1st offense - Warning • 2nd offense - Lunch Detention (to make up missed work) - 1 point deducted from their final marking period grade • 3rd offense - Lunch Detention (to make up missed work) - 1 point deducted from their final marking period grade - Email parent • 4th offense - After school Detention (to make up missed work) with the Subject Area Teacher - 1 point deducted from their final marking period grade - Parent Conference • 5th offense - After school Detention (to make up missed work) with Mr. Herbert - 1 point deducted from their final marking period grade - Check in with Mr. Herbert DAILY to sign off on “homework sheet.” Student has to have 5 successful, consecutive days of completed homework assignments. If not, sign-off procedure continues. • 6th offense Procedure for 5th offense resumes. *Note: Homework is posted on the HP School website, by teacher. If your child says they have NO homework, please check!
Grades • Grading Standards The Harrington Park School has adopted the following standard for letter grades in grade 5 through grade 8: • A+ 98 or higher • A 92-97 • A- 90-91 • B+ 88-89 • B 82-87 • B- 80-81 • C+ 78-79 • C 72-77 • C- 70-71 • D 65-69 I Incomplete • F 0-64 NA Not Applicable
Birthday Celebrations • 5th grade is the last time they get to celebrate their birthdays with a special treat (they do NOT celebrate in middle school) • Takes place in Homeroom, during 7th or 8th period • O’Toole’s Homeroom: Mondays only • For summer birthdays, we can celebrate on their “half-birthday,” or during May / June • Please send plates, napkins and pre-cut, if at all possible. If not, please send in a knife, as we don’t have those in the classroom.
Class Trips • 2 Class Trips are in the process of being planned for this year. Notices will come home once they are approved and arrangements are finalized. • 5th Grade Class T-Shirts are being ordered. Notices should have come home with this information. These are helpful when on a class trip. (ex. Liberty Science Center) Students also wear them for Field Day, Blue & White Day, HP Spirit Day, etc.
