Types of Emotions • Emotions come in different degrees of intensity • There are many variations on the same type of emotion.
Factors that affect Emotions • Culture • Gender • Social conventions and customs • Social roles we play in society • Self-disclosure • Emotional Contagion
Emotional Competence • Recognize what your feelings are and make sure to express them. • Use emotionally charged language • Recognize that you have a large spectrum of varying emotions • Recognize the difference between acting and feeling • Accept responsibility of your emotions • Choose the best time and place to display emotions • Be clear when you express your emotions
Facilitative and Debilitative Emotions • Facilitative emotions help us function effectively. • Debilitative emotions are stumbling blocks and can come in degrees as well. • Long lasting debilitative emotions can harm us.
