The end result is to have an overall understanding of Spanish exploration, its reasons, and effects. • Task 1 • Why did the Spanish want to explore? What werethey looking for? • In paragraph form, write about the reasons the Spanish were looking to explore. Why did they want new trade routes? Why did they explore the areas that they did? • Task 2 • What goods did they hope to acquire? • Research the resources the Spanish hoped to acquire during exploration and represent them through images and words. • Task 3 • Explain the importance of the following explorers. Be sure to include when they were exploring, the area explored, and what they accomplished. The use of paragraphs, pictures and maps are necessary. • Christopher Columbus • Ferdinand Magellan • Task 4 • What effects did the Spanish have on the areas they colonized? Name at least 2 positive effects and 2 negative effects. • In paragraph form, write about the effects of Spanish exploration on the people and land of the areas settled. • Task 5 • Select one area that the Spanish colonized. How can Spanish influence still be seen today? • You might include cultural impacts (language, art, architecture, literature, religion, economy, foods, or traditions,) or modern links (current events) between the 2 countries. • Grading • Each task is worth 10 points. Grading will be based on the thoroughness of your responses to each task. Were all required questions answered? Were detailed examples used to support your statements? • Visuals are worth 20 points. Are the required images and maps supplied? Do they clearly show the ideas that they are representing? • Mechanics are worth 5 points. Spelling, punctuation, and grammar count! • Final product • You have the choice of how you want to create your project. Typed word documents with printed images are fine. So are posters, PowerPoint presentations, or videos. Creativity is not part of the grade, so this will not impact your final score. It is simply giving you an option as to how you may choose to create your project. Remember, no matter which method you choose, the written components are required (no voice recordings).
