4. Agendas Each student is expected to utilize the agenda to write assignments for each class. Teachers will check the agenda weekly. School rewards will be awarded to students that are using the agenda properly. Please look at calendar on webpage!

6. Procedures Each classroom has procedures and expectations that have been explained to students. Students are responsible for looking at the white boards in the hallway in order to know what supplies to bring to class. Pencils, red pens, colored pencils, glue, and scissors should be brought to class every day.

7. Discipline In order to maintain an environment conducive to learning, appropriate behavior and work habits are expected from your child. Your child will be warned about inappropriate choices. After a warning, students will receive a conduct mark. Other negative consequences can result in loss of a privilege, lunch detention, alternate seating, and student conferences. Students will be sent to the office for ongoing inappropriate behavior or for severe discipline situations. Gum is not allowed at any time, and will result in automatic lunch detention.

Maintaining excellent conduct allows students to be eligible for classroom rewards. Conduct infractions will be marked on weekly cards. Cards are sent home in green folders every Thursday and need to be returned with a parent signature on Friday. If the conduct card is not returned on time, the following consequences apply: Friday – student will receive a conduct mark Monday – student will be assigned lunch detention *If the conduct card is not returned by Thursday it will be an office referral. 9. Graded Work *Take Home Folders: Graded papers will be passed out on Thursdays. Students will collect all their graded papers in the green Thursday folder. Any papers that are below a 70 should be taken out as soon as a student gets home and redone for a 70. Correctionsmust be turned in by Monday to get credit. Put anything that needs to be signed, such as conduct cards, back in the Thursday folder. Anything requiring a signature should be signed on Thursday night and returned to your homeroom teacher on Friday.

10. Graded Work *Corrections: If a student makes a 69 or below on a daily assignment he/she may correct the missed questions. The assignment must be corrected following the correction requirements. Pleasedo not erase original answers! Students will have until the following Monday from the time the paper is returned in the green Thursday take-home folder to submit their corrections. Assignments that do not follow the correction requirements will not be accepted.

11. What if… *Missing Assignments/ Make up work:Teachers have additional copies of missing assignments in a specific spot in their classrooms. It is the student’s responsibility to acquire and complete these assignments and turn in in a timely manner. Points will be deducted based on the school-wide late work policy, which can be found in the agenda.

12. Skyward Progress Reports and Report cards will be sent to the email provided in Skyward. Please request paper copy if needed. During registration, you had the opportunity to obtain access information to view your child’s grades online. When you present your driver’s license, the front office will give you your access codes. Parents are able to view grades as soon as they are entered into Skyward. You can set up a feature to automatically send you an e-mail if there is a low grade posted.  

14. Testing Every 5th grader will be required to take all three STAAR tests this year. 5th grade is an SSI year. Students must pass to be promoted. Math- April 1st Reading- April 2nd Science- April 23rd

Math • General Information: • Homework given almost everyday.(No weekend HW) Should not take longer than twenty-thirty minutes • numerous resources on my webpage • Math ISN must be kept up to date, brought to class everyday, and taken home everyday for HW help *** Math ISN inside cover contains username and login information for Think Through Math, Think Central Book, and Fast Math • Math Practice Workbook, 5th Grade Math Book and 6th Grade Math Book are available online • Classroom economy: jobs, rent, bonuses, checks, ledger, fines, auctions, etc. • Try not to fall behind in Math: if you know you are going to be absent ask a.s.a.p. for your work. You can request work be sent home or picked up as long as there is 24 hr. notice. • Remind101- I use it all the time. Make sure you are signed up for the right class period. • If you have homework questions please do not hesitate to ask me from home. An e-mail is best, but if it is an emergency you can call.

Reading Language Arts Fifth Grade Reading Course Overview The English Language Arts & Reading Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) are organized into the following strands: -Reading, where students read and understand a wide variety of literary and informational texts; -Writing, where students compose a variety of written texts with a clear controlling idea, coherent organization, and sufficient detail; -Research, where students are expected to know how to locate a range of relevant sources and evaluate, synthesize, and present ideas and information; -Listening and Speaking, where students listen and respond to the ideas of others while contributing their own ideas in conversations and in groups; and -Oral and Written Conventions, where students learn how to use the oral and written conventions of the English language in speak-ing and writing. The standards are cumulative--students will continue to address earlier standards as needed while they attend to standards for their grade. In fifth grade, students will engage in activities that build on their prior knowledge and skills in order to strengthen their reading, writing, and oral language skills. Students should read and write on a daily basis.

22. Social Studies Social Studies is taught by each homeroom teacher from 8:40-9:25. We all use the History Alive Text book. There is a link that students can use as a study guide to help with tests.
