  2. FED Mission The division promotes the development and timely introduction of fusion energy as a sustainable energy source with favorable economic, environmental, and safety attributes. The division cooperates with other organizations on common issues of multidisciplinary fusion science and technology, conducts professional meetings, and disseminates technical information in support of these goals. Members focus on the assessment and resolution of critical developmental issues for practical fusion energy applications.

FED Contributions to ANS • ANS Position Statement on Fusion Energy (updated in 2008), Background Statement in revision • Participation with Other Professional Societies: • IEEE liaison • Other: Fusion Energy Sciences Advisory Committee • Society Leadership: • FED members are active nationally (A. Abdel-Khalik, K. McCarthy, K. Schultz, P. Wilson) • Non-Meeting Publications appear in • Fusion Science and Technology Impact factor 0.95

FED Services to Membership • Division continues to engage in professional development activities through the PDC and workshop activities • Continue to contribute to the ANS NEED scholarship and in the process of developing Fusion Educators scholarship • Engaged in peer recognition through activities such as: the Edward Teller Award, the FED Awards (Achievement and Technical Accomplishment. best Student Paper Awards • FED Continuously supports the ANS student conference and travel of students to ANS conferences.

  7. FED Meetings • Fusion Energy Division flagship meeting is the biennium Technology of Fusion Energy (TOFE), which alternates embedded/standalone. • The Fusion Energy Division was the initial and continued co-sponsor of the biennial Nuclear Fuels and Structural Materials Symposium (NFSM); NFSM-3 is within this conference. NFSM series TOFE series
