  6. What is Open Learning? • Open learning is a teaching method . • Open learning is supposed to allow pupils self-determined, independent and interest-guided learning. • Also : Active Learning….Cooperative Learning….Distance Education….Open Education. Open Learning in Engineering - ITEPoly-2013

  7. What is Open Learning? • Distance education or distance learning is a field of education that focuses on teaching methods and technology with the aim of delivering teaching, often on an individual basis, to students who are not physically present in a traditional educational setting such as a classroom. • It has been described as "a process to create and provide access to learning when the source of information and the learners are separated bytime and distance, or both." 26. Online & Distance Education at UND • The College of Engineering and Mines currently offers five of our engineering degree programs (chemical, civil, electrical, mechanical and petroleum) through a distance delivery mode called our Distance Engineering Degree Program (DEDP). • Our DEDP delivery mode offers non-traditional engineering students an opportunity to complete most of their undergraduate degree coursework in our accredited undergraduate engineering programs through the internet. Students are required to complete their laboratory requirements through accelerated summer courses at UND. Since our DEDP students experience the same lectures and coursework requirements as our on campus students, we consider this education experience to be essentially equivalent.
