Subjects and Verbs • In English, sentences have a • subject and a verb. • The subject is the person or thing that is doing the action or that is being described. • The verb is the action word, • like jump or sing. • The verb can also be a linking word, • like is or are, that links the subject to a description. • In French, sentences also have a subject and a verb.

Nouns and Pronouns Sentences with nouns as subjects Sentences with pronouns as subjects • Denise sings well. • Denise chantebien. • Simon is blond. • Simon estblond. • Denise is a friend. • Denise estuneamie. • She sings well. • Elle chantebien. • He is blond. • Il estblond. • She is fifteen years old. • Elle aquinze ans.

  5. Je or J’ Je J’ • Je m’appelle Robert. • Use <<je>> before a word beginning with a consonant. • J’aiquinze ans. • Use <<j’>> before a word beginning with a vowel or silent h.
